To be a better writer, one must read more, not just write more. Burcu Noyan, 22, takes that lesson one step further by consuming her magazines in three languages – English, French, and Turkish – and on multiple media platforms. Burcu’s current flame is with French-based fashion magazine, Jalouse, a love affair that began last semester when she studied abroad in Paris.
It wasn’t until Burcu landed in the states that she could purchase and peruse through an issue of Lucky, the shopping-centered magazine where she currently interns.
Burcu said Lucky stood out from other top-tier ASME picks because it was looking for help in the online department, which compliments her graphic design and online editing background. Burcu interned for two firms in her hometown of Istanbul, Turkey following her first and second year at Vassar College. The French and Economics double major opted for a path to the magazine industry, rather than pursuing opportunities aligned with her majors.
“Whatever I did, I could do it well,” she said. “But I wanted to find my passion.”
Burcu may be a long way from Istanbul, but she said she feels at home in the city, sipping on Starbucks, chewing on a NY-styled bagel, and especially, after dinner at Chipotle.
