From Corn to the Big Apple
Alexandra Blair Engler lives in Lincoln, Nebraska with her mother, a project manager at Celeron, and her father, a mediator. Although their jobs did not influence her career path, she was encouraged to do whatever made her happy. “Do whatever you want,” they told her. “Just be good at it.”
Alex grew up with corn fields and horses. She loved her hometown, but coming to New York has been a “dream come true.” She loves the people and the constant excitement. On weekends, she explores the neighborhood and finds cheap places to get drinks with friends.
She started her journalistic career at her high school’s newspaper and worked her way up to editor in chief at Marquette University’s lifestyle magazine, the Marquette. She also interned with Milwaukee magazine and helped a local charter school form its own newspaper.
Upon graduation, Alex hopes to land a job at Sports Illustrated or perhaps GQ.
Always the hard worker, Alex works Sundays and sometimes brings her work home. But according to roommate Jillian D’Onfro, Alex also knows how to have a good time.
And what makes Alex unique? Possibly her love of cheese curds and football. “She’s very Wisconsin,” said Jillian.
